  • Overview

    A lead experience writer plans, facilitates, and creates great content experiences for our clients and their customers while advocating for language throughout the design process. Working closely with clients, designers, and engagement managers, they act as both a leader and hands-on contributor across the project lifecycle. They are comfortable switching between big-picture content strategy and detailed execution on web and UI copy as projects demand. With an eye for editorial style, a mind for process, and a deep understanding of user experience, lead experience writers possess a strong point of view on all aspects of content planning, creation, and governance.


    • Planning, writing, editing, and testing content for complex websites and digital products 
    • Leading clients and internal teams through content planning, creation and governance exercises on projects
    • Helping clients align their digital experiences and content to their business goals and users’ needs
    • Educating colleagues and clients on the role of content in experience design and advocating for the value of upfront content planning
    • Facilitating dialogue around communication goals, editorial processes, user needs, and content types and formats
    • Leading client conversations around governance, workflows, and staffing considerations to ensure that content plans are realistic and sustainable
    • Conducting and overseeing content audits and competitive research
    • Creating and managing content-related documentation including core strategy statements, message architectures, content outlines, copy decks, and style guides
    • Developing taxonomies, content models, content frameworks and governance plans
    • Collaborating with designers on site maps, navigation schemes, user flows, and clickable prototypes
    • Providing mentorship and editorial direction to junior and mid-level writers and designers  Conducting/assisting with user research and analyzing findings to identify content needs
    • Researching content strategy trends and best practices
    • Performing other duties as assigned


    • 7+ years of experience planning and creating content experiences for digital properties, preferably with an emphasis on product and servicing content, as well as UI copy
    • Extensive experience working with writers, designers and technologists
    • Experience leading content and/or design projects from kickoff through launch
    • Familiarity and comfort with user-centered design methods and a strong understanding of how content fits into the design process
    • Prior experience with and knowledge of common enterprise CMS platforms and structured content
    • Strong ability to synthesize complex inputs from multiple sources and transform them into clear, user-centered content
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong client-facing presentation, facilitation, and communication abilities
    • Ability to define, match, and coach others on writing for a specific brand voice
    • Attention to detail and a strong eye for editing and proofreading
    • Curiosity, tenacity, and flexibility in challenging situations
    • Willingness to experiment with tools and methods to suit our clients’ needs
    • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and ask for help when needed
    • An interest in using data to drive content decisions
    • Knowledge of InDesign, Sketch, InVision, and other design/prototyping tools a plus
    • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in English/humanities, journalism, library science, technical communication, HCI, or similar field preferred
